An an explosion took place on 131 West 23rd Street in Manhattan, New York City yesterday at 8:30 P.M. 29 civilians are injured and windows were shattered that caused a plethora of streets to be shut down. Only one victim was seriously hurt and the rest had shrapnel injuries. Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a new conference on Saturday night that the explosion was intentional.
Witnesses indicated the explosion came from a dumpster on the sidewalk. Officials are saying they believe it was a result of a homemade bomb. But no terrorist links have been indicates as of yet. A photo of the explosive device was posted to Twitter to warn citizens to be careful. It was a silver piece of cookware that had a cellphone and wires attached to it. The pressure cooker type device is similar to what was used in the Boston Marathon Bombings.

The device was thankfully removed at about 2:25 A.M. and sent to the Police Department’s firing range in the Bronx at Rodman’s Neck. It will be inspected by robots. They Mayor has stated at the news conference there is,
“no specific and credible threat against New York City at this point in time from any terror organization.”
The Police Commissioner told reporters there is not s current suspect in custody or under investigation and that their are currently trying to figure that out. The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have asked the public to turn over any camera evidence, tips, or eye witness accounts they have for help with the investigation. Some camera footage has already been turned over.
Officials have said that as of now there is no known connection between the attack in New York and the one in New Jersey that took place eleven hours prior to the events in New York. In New Jersey an improvised explosive device went off in a garbage can during a military charity race located in Seaside Park, New Jersey. That attacks took place at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday but nobody was injured.
There are four things we are unaware of.
- Who is responsible for the attack
- The motive for the attack
- The reasoning behind the location of the explosion
- The contents inside of the pressure cooker
Updates are continuing to come in as the investigation continues and new evidence pops up.
