Megyn Kelly Opens Up About Sexual Harassment She Suffered At Fox
Fox News host Megyn Kelly sat down with Dr. Phil this week for an indepth interview in which she discussed the “sexual harassment” she suffered at the hands of disgraced CEO Roger Ailes and how Donald Trump once “yelled” at her because he was angry about a story she did on his first marriage.
Daily Mail reported that Kelly said her issues with Ailes began was a first year reporter and had only been at the company for 12 months. At the time, she was working in Washington D.C., but she was called up to New York.
“So I went up to New York. But the problem with that meeting and with several that happened over the next six months was, not only was there legitimate professional advice, but there were grossly inappropriate comments,” The Kelly File host recounted, adding that there were “specific comments about my body, how he (Ailes) wanted to see me and it grew more severe over time.”
“He said he knew I must have some very sexy bras and he’d like to see me in them,” Kelly said.
The Fox News host told Dr. Phil that she was not “looking to be salacious” and that it wasn’t easy for her to discuss this.
“But I want people to understand this was real, he did do this and I was far from the only one,” she said.
Ailes resigned from Fox in July after he was accused of sexual harassment by Fox News host Gretchen Carlson. Many other women quickly came forward to say he had harassed them as well.
Dr. Phil later asked Kelly about her “contentious relationship” with Trump, and whether it has changed in the days since he won the election.
“Well I don’t think I did have a contentious relationship with him – I feel that Trump and I have moved past that after I met in a Trump tower and it’s a long sit down with him,” she replied. “And I have a good relationship with his children, with his wife and so he and I, I think, you know we’re not ‘tight’ but I don’t think we do have a problem with one another.”
She then talked about the events leading up to the first presidential debate in 2015.
“So I tell the story for the first time. I’d never gotten into this, but there was a backstory to that moment,” Kelly said. “Once he announced his candidacy for president one of the stories that broke about him was that in his divorce proceeding from his first wife Ivana, she had under oath accused him of raping her and she later recanted that testimony but the news broke that under oath she accused him of it and basically people were just running with it.”
Kelly said she ran the story on her show and that “Trump was not happy with that interview.” She said the president-elect “wasn’t happy that I put the reporter on the show and four days before the presidential debate – that is now become so well-known and well-seen, he called me up and threatened me and made very clear to me that he was extremely displeased.”
Kelly said she then told him, “Mr Trump I’m sorry that you are unhappy but you don’t control the editorial on the Kelly File.”
“And that was it: He started screaming at me; he hung-up the phone… and the next time we met was that Thursday night,” she said.
