The director of a West Virginia development group and a mayor are in hot water this week after a post about Michelle Obama that was deemed racist went viral and prompted calls that they both be fired.

Clay County Development Corp. director Pamela Ramsey Taylor wrote on social media after Donald Trump won the election, “It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.”

“Just made my day Pam,” Clay Mayor Beverly Whaling replied, according to ABC News.

The post was then shared on social media hundreds of times before it was finally deleted. An online petition has been started demanding that both Taylor and Whaling be fired from their positions.

WSAZ reported that Taylor issued an apology for the post, but she now says the situation has flipped into a “hate crime against me.” She lamented that she and her children have all received death threats over this, and she believes she will probably lose her job. Whaling has yet to comment.
