Barack Hussein Obama was devastated last week when Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the presidential election. That’s why it came as a massive surprise to many when Obama urged Americans to get behind Trump in his first press conference since the election.

American News reported that after meeting with Trump, Obama said he is “sincere” about being president for all Americans. He also warned Trump’s supporters that some of his expectations are likely to be shaken by the reality of his new job.

Obama went on to urge Trump to reach out to the groups who felt anxious about his campaign rhetoric, especially women and minorities.

“I don’t think he is ideological, I think ultimately he is pragmatic in that way,” Obama said. “And that can serve him well as long as he has got good people around him and has a good sense of direction.”

The president said that during his meeting with Trump, he told the legendary businessman his ability to tap into the enthusiasm of voters was respectable.

“I think he is coming to this office with fewer set hard and fast policy prescriptions than a lot of other presidents may be arriving with,” Obama added. “Do I have concerns? Absolutely, of course, I’ve got concerns. He and I differ on a whole bunch of issues.”

“The American people will judge over the course of the next couple of years whether they like what they see,” Obama argued. “This office has a way of waking you up. Those aspects of his positions or his predispositions that don’t match up with reality, he will find shaken up pretty quick because reality has a way of asserting itself.”

We’re pleasantly surprised that Obama is getting behind Trump. What do you think about his comments? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
