Throughout his presidential campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly promised that he would appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton and hold her accountable for her use of a personal email server during her time as Secretary of State. That’s why millions of his supporters are stunned today after his team announced he will not be moving forward with seeking charges against Clinton.

Daily Mail reported that Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told “Morning Joe” this morning that Trump has a lot on his mind and “things that sound like the campaign aren’t among them.”

“I think Hillary Clinton still has to face the fact that a majority of Americans don’t find her to be honest or trustworthy, but if Donald Trump can help her heal, then perhaps that’s a good thing,” Conway said.

“Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski said that a source close to the president-elect said that Trump feels Clinton “has been through enough.”

During the election, Trump threatened Clinton with jail time and accused her and her husband of using their charity for “criminal enterprise.”

“Lock her up!” was a common rallying cry at Trump events for his supporters who believed Clinton should be in prison. Republicans in congress had promised to spend “years” investigating Clinton after the election, but Conway said she expects them to back down too.

“I think when the president-elect, who’s also the head of your party now, Joe, tells you before he’s even inaugurated he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message, tone and content, to the members,” she said.

Conway suggested that Trump was going back on this campaign promise because he has more important matters to deal with as president.

“I think he’s thinking of many different things as he prepares to become the President of the United Stats and things that sound like the campaign aren’t among them,” she said.
