It may be the week of Thanksgiving, but Donald Trump is still hard at work building his cabinet. Today, he made another announcement about his cabinet that has everyone talking.

Fox 17 reported that Trump has Betsy DeVos, a charter school advocate and GOP donor from Michigan, to be his education secretary. Trump called DeVos “a brilliant and passionate education advocate” when he named her to the position.

DeVos is the head of the advocacy group American Federation for Children, and she is mostly known for her support of charter schools and vouchers.

Some conservatives are weary of DeVos’s ties to the political establishment and have warned that she has previously supported the Common Core standards that Trump railed against during the campaign. Christians were also disappointed by this announcement, as rumors had circulated that Trump was considering Jerry Falwell Jr. for this position.

Falwell  is president of Liberty University, one of our country’s most prestigious evangelical Christian colleges, and he was supposedly tapped as Secretary of Education when he met with Trump privately at Trump Tower last week. However, reports are now coming in that Falwell is actually being considered for a higher position in the administration.

Falwell refused to confirm or deny any rumors.

“I met with the president-elect and several of his top advisers to discuss what role I might be able to play with regard to education,” Falwell said, according to Conservative 101. “It was a very good discussion.”

DeVos is the second woman to be named to Trump’s administration, as he named South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to be his ambassador to the United Nations this morning.
