Shocking Scandal Explodes Open at Fox News
Fox News was hit with yet another scandal this week when Megyn Kelly detailed the final weeks of disgraced CEO Roger Ailes’ time at the network in her new memoir “Settle For More.”
Daily Mail reported that The Kelly File host claims that after Gretchen Carlson filed her sexual harassment lawsuit against the CEO in July, he asked Kelly to speak out to defend him. She refused to do so, and as a result, she claims Ailes “engineered hit pieces” about her online.
Kelly immediately realized that she had two choices: stay quiet or speak out. She chose the latter, and immediately went to speak to Ailes’ bosses, specifically News Corp executive co-chairman Lachlan Murdoch.
“I could ensure that the owners of Fox News Channel – Rupert Murdoch and his sons – understood they might actually have a predator running their company,” wrote Kelly in a passage from her book that was published in the The New York Times.
This came after it was revealed that Kelly had gone back and added a passage about the harassment she suffered at the hands of Ailes to her memoir at the last minute.
“There was a pattern to his behavior. I would be called into Roger’s office, he would shut the door, and over the next hour or two, he would engage in a kind of cat-and-mouse game with me – veering between obviously inappropriate sexually charged comments (e.g. about the ‘very sexy bras’ I must have and how he’d like to see me in them) and legitimate professional advice,” Kelly wrote in one passage.
She claims that Ailes crossed the line in early 2006, when he started, “trying to grab me repeatedly and kiss me on the lips.”
When Kelly refused his advances, she wrote that Ailes “ominously” asked her: “When is your contract up?”
