Hillary Clinton was publicly humiliated on Monday after an unemployed father who recently lost his job as a coal worker confronted her about her plan to “put the coal industry out of business.”
According to Daily Mail, Bo Copley showed up to an event in West Virginia on Monday to ask Hillary why voters should believe her pledge to help revitalize the region’s economy with initiatives including renewable energy. He was referring to comments Hillary made at a Town Hall back in March, when she discussed her plan for renewable energy, the economy and how she would help America’s coal country recover from an increasing switch to renewable energy.
“We’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business,” she said at the time.
Copley broke down as he handed Hillary a photo of his three children, tell her he didn’t know how to tell them he had lost his job. Hillary then apologized profusely, claiming that her prior comments were “a misstatement.”
“How you could say you are going to put a lot of coal miners out of jobs and then come in here and tell us how you’re going to be our friend?” Copley asked Hillary.
“I can’t take it back, and I certainly can’t get people who, for political reasons or personal reasons, very painful reasons, are upset with me,” she said after apologizing. “I want you to know I’m going to do whatever I can to help no matter what happens politically. Whether or not West Virginia supports me, I’m going to support you.”
