GOP establishment House Republican Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) has been attacking Donald Trump for months, and famously refused to endorse him last week when he became the presumptive nominee.
Sarah Palin, one of Trump’s biggest supporters, responded to this by promising to fundraise for Ryan’s primary opponent. Backed into a corner, Ryan has ceased his anti-Trump attacks before shocking everyone by announcing he will step down as chairman of the RNC convention in Cleveland, Ohio if that’s what Trump wants.
“He’s the nominee. I’ll do whatever he wants with respect to the convention,” Ryan said when asked about this scenario, according to The Political Insider.
Ryan went on to backtrack on his previous comments and reveal his hopes to establish a relationship with Trump.
“I just want to get to know the guy … we just don’t know each other,” said Ryan.
“I never said never. I just said (not) at this point,” he said of his comments in which he refused to endorse Trump. “I wish I had more time to get to know him before this happened. We just didn’t.”
