There is nothing Michelle Obama is more proud of from her time as first lady than her healthy food changes she has made in an attempt to force Americans to eat better. That’s why it came as very bad news for her this week when a dozen scientists submitted a letter arguing that her federally handed Nutrition Facts label, which requires that food manufacturers list all added sugars in the food item, lacks “scientific rigor.”
“We are concerned that U.S. public health policy in this area may be progressing down a path that history suggests to be counterproductive,” the scientists wrote, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
“Specifically, the FDA’s proposed rule revising the Nutrition Facts Label with regard to an added sugars declaration and the establishment of a dietary reference value of 10 percent lacks both the scientific rigor based on careful consideration or evidence-based reviews and a thorough appraisal of unintended consequences that will surely arise,” the letter explained, according to Conservative Tribune.
In essences, these experts have revealed that these regulations are based on junk science practiced by Michelle, a woman with neither a formal education nor certifications or awards in any form of scientific study.
Instead of going with facts, Michelle based her latest regulations on “widely controversial” conclusions from the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, which the scientists noted “did not include a single member with a specific expertise in sugars.”
The scientists went on to say that the Institute of Medicine and the European Food Safety Authority has “concluded that added sugars are not uniquely linked to obesity, cardiovascular disease, or diabetes.”
You would think these findings would impact Michelle in some way, but she actually doesn’t care at all.
“I am thrilled that the FDA has finalized a new and improved Nutrition Facts label that will be on food products nationwide,” she boasted in a statement last week after her regulation was finalized on Friday. “This is going to make a real difference in providing families across the country the information they need to make healthy choices.”
