President Obama gave a speech to the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars group in Elkhart, Indiana on Wednesday, and what he had to say did not sit well with the members.
In his speech, Obama talked about what he called the “primary story” told by Republicans, dealing with “moochers at the bottom of the income ladder.”
“We have been hearing this story for decades. Tales about welfare queens, talking about takers…” he said, according to Western Journalism. “It’s the story that is broadcast every day on some cable news stations, on right-wing radio, it’s pumped into cars, and bars, and VFW halls all across America, and right here in Elkhart.”
Obama went on to say that those who hear this storyline will think his big government is the problem. Afterwards, members of the veterans group slammed Obama for “lecturing” them.
“I don’t know how many VFW Posts the president has ever visited, but our near 1.7 million members are a direct reflection of America,” said VFW National Commander John A. Biedrzycki. “We don’t have confused politics, we don’t need left or rightwing media filters telling us how to think or vote, and we don’t need any President of the United States lecturing us about how we are individually [affected] by the economy.”
Biedrzycki added that veterans are not an easy group to manipulate.
“Let’s not denigrate their service, their sacrifice or their intelligence,” he said in the statement.
Shame on Obama for insulting the intelligence of our veterans with this nonsense!
