Jesse Ventura got some very bad news this week when a three-judge panel of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the entire $1.8 million awarded him by a jury in a lawsuit he had filed against the estate of the late “American Sniper” Chris Kyle.
According to Conservative Tribune, Ventura sued Kyle over a passage in his book that he claimed was defamatory about him. He also claimed that Kyle’s estate was unjustly enriched from his defamation, which a jury had agreed with in 2014.
However, Chris Kyle’s widow, Taya Kyle, appealed the decision and just found a panel of appeals judges agreeable to her. The panel unanimously voted to vacate the $1.3 million award for “unjust enrichment,” saying such a claim failed as a matter of law. In a 2-1 vote, they also rejected the $500,000 defamation award, sending the case back down to the lower courts with an order for a new trial.
Neither Ventura nor Kyle have commented on this ruling at this time.
