Barack Obama’s hometown of Chicago faced another weekend of violence with 6 people being killed and 12 being injured in shootings.
According to ABC News, the first fatal shooting occurred on Friday night in West Englewood, where a 16 year-old boy was shot in the head by two men who approached the vehicle he was riding in. The teen was later identified as Melvin Cook, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Later in the weekend, two security guards were called to a large outdoor party at a housing complex in the 1300 block of West Hastings, where someone opened fire and killed a 24 year-old man. The two guards were wounded in the shooting.
At 5:30 Saturday morning, police were called to the 4800 block of West Monroe in Austin after receiving reports of gunshots. There, they found a 23-year-old man lying face down dead after being shot several times.
This is just a few of the shootings that occurred in Chicago this past weekend, but it’s nothing compared to what happened over Memorial Day weekend, when 6 were killed and 63 were injured.
