Just one week after the terrorist attack at a restaurant that left 20 people dead, Bangladesh has been rocked by yet another act of terror.
According to CNN, three people were killed at a checkpoint on Thursday as gunmen tried to attack the country’s biggest gathering to mark the Muslim Eid holiday. Over 300,000 people gathered for the prayers in Sholakia, which is located 62 miles northeast of Dhaka.
“The attackers’ target was the congregation but the police were able to stop them from crossing the checkpoint,” said Bangladeshi Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu. “This is an open area where a huge Eid gathering happens every year.”
One police officer and a female civilian were killed in the exchange of gunfire, and another officer died at the hospital later in the day. Around 14 other officers were injured in the attack as well.
