Weeks after former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against network CEO Roger Ailes, reports are coming in that he has been fired from his position at Fox.
These reports stem from well-known Fox critic Gabriel Sherman, a writer for New York Magazine whose other claims about the network have not always been verified. However, he claims that Rupert Murdoch and sons Lachlan and James have decided to fire Ailes due to the scandal surrounding the lawsuit.
According to Mediaite, the New York law firm Paul, Weiss has launched an investigation into Ailes, and Sherman says they are looking into whether other Fox employees have faced pressure to speak out in defense of the CEO. They are reportedly particularly focusing their investigation on host Neil Cavuto.
“They are also looking into the appropriateness of Aileen’s pressuring employees to speak out on his behalf, against his accusers,” Sherman alleged. “For instance, they are focusing on an op-ed written by Fox Business anchor Neil Cavuto in which Cavuto called the allegations against Ailes “sick.” As Cavuto is a manager at Fox News (his title is senior VP and managing editor), his comments could be seen as part of a corporate attempt to silence women who would speak out.”
Sherman claims that the Murdochs have decided Ailes is now too much of a liability for the network.
“James Murdoch is said to be arguing that Ailes should be presented with a choice this week to resign or face being fired,” he wrote.
Fox News has not yet commented on these allegations. We will update you further as this story develops.
