FBI Director James Comey issued a grim warning this week when he revealed that though we are having more success against ISIS on the battlefield, this will only lead to more terrorist attacks in the West.
Comey was speaking at Fordham University Wednesday when he predicted that crushing ISIS forces in Syria and Iraq will likely result in dispersing terrorists elsewhere.
“At some point there is going to be a terrorist diaspora out of Syria like we’ve never seen before,” Comey said, according to CNN. “Not all of the Islamic State killers are going to die on the battlefield.”
Comey then compared what will happen to the rise of Al Qaeda, which formed from fighters who had been hardened and radicalized fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s and early 1990s.
“This is an order of magnitude greater than anything we’ve seen before” Comey said. “A lot of terrorists fled out of Afghanistan… this is 10 times that or more. We saw the future of this threat in Brussels and in Paris (attacks earlier this year).”
We can only pray that this prediction does not come true, and that ISIS does not continue targeting the west for years to come. What do you think about this warning? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
