Two elderly brothers disappeared from their home in Tennessee and had not been seen for three years. Finally, police were able to solve the mystery of what happened to them.
According to AWM, Anthony and Andrew Johnson, 63, had shared their home for over four decades but were always seen as reclusive by their neighbors. On March 29, police were called to the Johnsons’ Chattanooga, Tennessee home by a relative to check on their wellbeing. When they walked into the home, they found the decomposed remains of both brothers sitting in matching recliners in the living room.
The cause of death has not been released, but authorities have revealed that the brothers died in 2011.
Neighbors said the Johnsons were reclusive brothers who were known to wear surgical masks when gardening, had always kept their curtains drawn and the lawn had been maintained regularly.
“I didn’t even know their names,” neighbor Linda Maffett said. She went on to tell a story about helping one of the brothers who had fallen on the porch and having him mention to her that his brother was deaf.
“I really felt bad that it happened and I didn’t have the courage to go barging over there and knock on the door when I had that gut feeling,” she said.
Neighbor Cory Hall spoke out to ask police for some answers.
“I would just like to know a little bit of the history about how they became such hermits,” he said. “They had to be off everybody’s radar for quite a while.”
“While this incident is tragic and unfortunate, Andrew and Anthony lived a hermit lifestyle and did not communicate with family or anyone else,” police said in a press release.
