Barack Obama’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, but that has done little to stop the large crime rate in the city.
According to Allen B West, 99 people have been shot in Chicago in less than a week, 24 of them fatally. Monday was the deadliest day Chicago had seen in 13 years, with nine people being killed in one day. One of the victims was a 10 year-old boy who was shot in the back as he played on his back porch.
The Chicago Tribune reported that the 99 shootings occurred between Friday afternoon and Thursday morning. This brings the total shooting victims in Chicago for 2016 to over 2,500, about 800 more than this time last year.
The total number of shooting victims in Chicago this year alone is 2,514, but that number is expected to grow by a lot this weekend.
This proves that stricter gun laws will do nothing to stop crime. What do you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
