Fox News fans were stunned yesterday when Greta Van Susteren abruptly left Fox News after 14 years with the network. Now, the real reason for her departure has potentially been revealed.
Van Susteren released the following statement on Facebook about her exit:
According to BizPacReview, however, there may be a lawsuit in Van Susteren’s future. Her contract with Fox reportedly contained a “key man clause,” which gives her the right to leave the network before the termination date of her contract if a key man in the organization leaves. The “key man” in this case would be former Fox CEO Roger Ailes, who resigned from the network in July.
Van Susteren’s husband John P. Coale told The New York Times that his wife exercised her “key man clause” on Friday because Ailes was no longer with Fox.
“There’s so much chaos, it’s very hard to work there,” Coale said, adding that the timing of her departure with the announcement of the settlement with Ms. Carlson was a “coincidence.”
When asked why Van Susteren exercised the key man clause now, Coale said “there’s more than meets the eye” and that there “might be litigation in the future” so he did not want to talk further.
