After leaving the G20 summit in China this week, Barack Obama paid a visit to Laos, where he offered a sort-of apology about bombing the country during the Vietnam War. However, he ended up making headlines for a very different reason…
According to Conservative Tribune, Obama was photographed speaking in Laos without his wedding ring.
This reignited rumors that Obama’s marriage with Michelle was on the rocks, as he typically always wears his ring.
Obama put the wedding band back on that same night for a banquet, presumably after one of his staffers forced him to, but the damage was already done. Making matters worse, Daily Mail reported that Michelle refused to join her husband on his Asia tour. Instead, she chose to spend Thursday presenting the National Student Poets Program awards with rapper Q-Tip.
Rumors have run rampant for years that the Obama marriage is one of convenience. Though Barack and Michelle try to act like they are madly in love, sources close to them have always said this is not the case at all.
While speaking without his ring, Obama said that the U.S. has a “profound moral and humanitarian obligation” because of the bombs they dropped in Laos during the Vietnam War.
“Here in Laos … we see the victims of bombs that were dropped because of decisions made half a century ago and we are reminded that wars always carry tremendous costs, many of them unintended,” Obama said, according to Voice of America.
The president neglected to mention that the current government in Laos is the political movement that allowed North Vietnamese troops to use Laos as a supply line, leading to the deaths of untold numbers of American troops. Obama also didn’t mention the ethnic cleansing by said Laotian government that killed far more than American bombs ever did.
