Pending an increase in the amount of protestors expected to show up for President-Elect Trump’s inauguration the National Guard is scheduled to deploy an additional 5,000 troops on the ground in D.C. January 20th.
Via WashingtonExaminer: Mayor Muriel Bowser said despite increased security concerns, the city is prepared and ready for the event, she said Friday at a press conference with U.S. Secret Service and other security forces. “We prepare for the biggest number possible,” Bowser said. Secret Service special agent Brian Ebert said the Washington field office is “well-prepared and ready for this inauguration.”
In addition to the 5,000 National Guard troops, there are an additional 3,000 law enforcement personnel from a variety of agencies and jurisdictions that are scheduled to be on the ground to ensure the President-Elect’s security.
D.C. interim police chief, Peter Newsham, told the Washington Examiner they are aware of protestors that have indicated they aim to disrupt the proceeding. Further saying: “Some folks that are indicating on social media that they’re coming to shut down the inauguration or the events […] It is something that we will be prepared for.”
